Your Guide will pick you up at the Hotel . Our Journey will take about 5 hours driving south of Windhoek to the Kalahari Desert for our first 2 nights.
This is a peacefully located lodge on the edge of the southern Kalahari in the mixed tree and shrub savannah, the lodge is crisscrossed by huge red sand dunes. They attach great importance to the preservation of nature and its living beings, so you can experience numerous species of animals and plants up close here. Watch antelopes, springboks, zebras, ostriches, meerkats in you.
Early morning for us after breakfast , your guide will take you on a guided walk through the red Kalahari dunes to see the small wonders of the area, from plants and tracks to insects and animals. Hear the bird calls and smell the air while your guide interprets it all to enrich your experience. You may see antelope, zebra, blue wildebeest (gnu), giraffe and birds like kori bustard and black korhaan, and you’ll certainly enjoy the views of Kalahari thornveld and red sand dunes that stretch across the landscape.
In the late afternoon, go for a sunset drive and learn about the amazing sociable weaver colonies in the camel thorn trees, listen to the sound of the Namaqua sandgrouse as they fly overhead, feel the breeze as it ripples the silky grasses. End your drive with sundowners on a burnt-orange sand dune, the Kalahari laid out below you as the sunset paints neon colours across the sky.
We leave the Kalahari mid morning to allow us enough time to get to our destination before the nature drive departs from the lodge for us to join. We continue towards sosussvlei. In the middle of the Namib Desert, in the Namib Naukluft Park two of Namibia’s scenic highlights can be found: the Sossusvlei and Dead Vlei
Firstly about the Namib Naukluft Park: This conservation area within the oldest desert worldwide, the Namib, is situated along the Atlantic coast, covers an area of nearly 50,000 km² and is the largest protected area in the country. The park was formed by merging several regions (Namib, Naukluft, Sossusvlei/Sesriem, and Sandwich Harbour). The present size of the park has been proclaimed in 1979. Only a small part of the park is accessible for visitors: the Naukluft Mountains, the Sossusvlei as well as some parts of the Kuiseb River. The huge protected area is about 500 km long and between 100 and 150 km wide.
A very early start this morning for our Sossusvlei guided excursion. We aim to leave our lodge well before sunrise to ensure that we are one of the first to enter the national park. From Sesriem, we drive further into the desert area, where the early morning light provides excellent opportunities for photography. Once we arrive in the 4x4 carpark, we can then explore this area on foot, with a walk around Dead Vlei and Sossusvlei, and for the adventurous, a hike up Big Daddy, the tallest dune in the region, offering breathtaking views of the sand sea that is the Namib Desert. By midday, we make our way back towards Sesriem with a stop at Sesriem Canyon, a small but important landmark for both the human and animal residents of the area.
We should be back at our lodge by 3 O’clock , we will drive with an open jeep to the Namib Dune Camp. The Namib Dune Star Camp is located in the dunes of the Namib desert. The camp which has nine cabins offers an "out-in-the-desert" experience with luxurious amenities like a soft double bed which can be wheeled out if guests want to sleep on veranda and under the stars. Furthermore the large rooms have an en-suite bathroom with hot shower and a spacious deck.
Our drive today takes us through to Swakopmund via the Gaub and Kuiseb passes. We continue through the ever changing desert landscapes before arriving in Walvis Bay, the main harbor in Namibia. Here we have the opportunity to visit the Walvis Bay Lagoon, a RAMSAR listed wetland site, famous as the feeding ground for many bird species including the Greater & Lesser Flamingos, as well as the endemic Damara Tern amongst others making it an ornithologist paradise. From Walvis Bay it’s just a short drive to Swakopmund where we will spend the next two nights.
Today is a free day, and the chance to explore at your own pace. For some, this will mean joining a boat cruise in Walvis Bay, where you have a good chance to see some seals and dolphins, for others, this will mean a morning of sandboarding before exploring the dunes on a quad bike, or enjoying a scenic flight before skydiving, and for others, it might be something a little more calm as a leisurely breakfast, a visit to the aquarium before an afternoon scenic flight along the Skeleton Coast.
Swakopmund is the adventure capital of Namibia and there is certainly something to satisfy everyone. The town itself, an unusual mix of German and Namibian culture offers a relaxed and walkable town centre to enjoy at our own pace. There are good restaurants in both towns, with seafood of course being a specialty.
We depart Swakopmund after breakfast to the inland of Damaraland . Damaraland is one of the most scenic areas in Namibia , a huge, untamed, ruggedly beautiful region that offers the more traveller a more adventurous challenge. Here there are prehistoric water courses with open plains and grassland, massive granite koppies and deep gorges.
Early start once more. Driving through Damaraland we will the opportunity to meet one of Namibias tribs , Himba and the Herero. We will be visiting the oldest rock art of the nomadic Bushman and the Damara cultural Museum to learn more about them and how they have been living and some still do.
If time allows us , on arrival we will continue on a short welcoming half – day drive into the Etosha National Park. Before getting ready for dinner. Guest are advise to visit the Okaukujo waterhole after dinner as this is the best time the night life comes to life and the water hole is very active.
Today will be devoted to exploring the park and maximising our chances for amazing wildlife sightings. We start with an early morning game drive before breakfast. We will then return to the lodge for breakfast. From there, we will continue our search and drive from waterhole to waterhole (especially in the winter months), as they support a rich diversity of animals. These waterholes are one of the most unique aspects of Etosha National Park, and a major attraction for wildlife photographers and animal behaviour experts as the different species of animals, both predator and prey alike, can often be captured (on camera) drinking at the same waterhole.
Depending on our route, we will return to our lodge, to relax by the lodge waterhole and pool during the hottest part of the day, before continuing our game drives late afternoon to try our luck some more.
After breakfast , we continue to the Waterberg Wilderness Plateau Park as we game drive our way to the southern exit of the Etosha National Park. Waterberg Plateau Park is a national park in central Namibia encompassing the Waterberg Plateau . The Waterberg Plateau is a particularly prominent feature, elevated high above the plains of the Kalahari of Eastern Namibia. The plateau and some 405 km² of surrounding land were declared a Nature Reserve in 1972. The plateau is largely inaccessible so in the early 1970s several of Namibia's endangered species were translocated there to protect them from predators and poaching to extinction. The programme was very successful and Waterberg now supplies other Namibian parks with rare species. In 1989, Black Rhino were reintroduced to the area from Damaraland, sparking a successful breeding programme of national and international significance for the species.
